I was recently given the opportunity to draw this lovely girl and her dog. This is my first dog drawn, and I will admit it was quite challenging!

Original drawing: 9x13
2b and b mechanical pencils, kneaded and white eraser, kleenex and stubby for smearing. 90lb Canson paper.

Note: Hopefully the contrast is fine, but I will make mention that the image comes across differently depending on the quality of your monitor. (we tested it on six monitors. 5 of which were fine, one that resulted in a grainy, washed view.)

Excellent work for first time! Fur is indeed challenging at first, but you've done great work with it. Good rendering and softness. You could increase the contrast by intensifying the darks to bring out the lights - but you'd lose the soft tone of the drawing. Either way, top marks.

You do know how to use white to its full advantage in this piece. I do agree that there could be more contrast but really not too much. Darker "blacks" (I hate to use that word because its not quite right) would be a plus. The eyes of the dog are very well done and seem very real. You also captured the emotion of the girl very well which is difficult to do. I'm impressed! But I do think that you got a little lazy on the foldson the bottom right of the girl....they just don't seem to be as gradiated nearly as much as everything else in the picture is. It's really a tiny nit-picky thing but it would make it better. But wonderful job it's beautiful and truly captures the emotions that are happening between the two subjects!
